We woke up today to news that Cotopaxi volcano, located about 30 miles from Quito, had two small eruptions around 4am. Throughout the day there have been a few other blasts from the volcano, which is erupting for the first time since 1940. We do not have a lot of information, however this article has a basic summary of the events: http://www.wired.com/2015/08/cotopaxi-ecuador-erupts-first-time-since-1940s/
While some scientists are saying this does not mean a large explosion is imminent, it is still unsettling activity. We do have the advantage of knowing that God is in complete control of our lives and country, and that His plan is always perfect. We are asking for your prayers for safety and peace throughout this situation. We will keep everyone updated as often as possible. Thank you!
After getting over the initial embarrassment, God showed me another way of looking at a frustrating situation. What a simple, little reminder that we are all imperfect people serving a perfect God! Though we make mistakes, He never does!
So when you see our prayer card we certainly hope that it reminds you to pray for our family; but now it can also be a reminder of how blessed we each are to be flawed people saved by our perfect Lord! *If you did not receive our prayer card and would like an imperfect copy, please email or message us. We would love to have you as part of our prayer support team as we serve the Lord in Quito, Ecuador this year!* Hello lovely prayer supporters! We have a weekend jam-packed with service opportunities for several ministries we are involved in. Please pray for strength, guidance, and boldness to share! Thank you!
Its time for our semi-annual spiritual emphasis week for the AAI elementary students! For this event, students go to chapel each day to learn from an exciting guest speaker. The gospel will be presented through music, lessons, skits, and other mediums.
Please pray for safe travels for our guest speaker, and that God would speak through his lessons this week. Parents are also invited to attend, so pray that they would be encouraged to attend. We want to see our students, parents, and teachers alike learn and grow this week. Please pray that hearts will be opened and committed to Christ!
My students memorized this important verse in November, and we recite it often. This year, I wanted to keep prayer at the forefront of our classroom. One way we are doing this is by using our prayer wall to write prayer requests (big and small), and then using those to pray for each other, ask each other about our prayers, etc. We also use this as a springboard to discuss how sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers how or when we want Him to.
This has created such a great atmosphere for our classroom, where the students care about each other, and understand the struggles that others are facing. Last week at the beginning of the day, I found several students, completely unprompted, at our "Dear God" wall, writing prayer requests and praying for their classmates. What a beautiful sight! Chris and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your prayers! They are undoubtedly helping to sustain us during the difficult times. What an amazing testimony to the power of prayer at all ages and stages of life! -Kristin Hello friends and family, we wanted to share with you a quick prayer request. We appreciate your prayers so very much!
Please pray for Kristin’s paperwork here in Ecuador. She is in the process of applying for a residency visa, which is necessary for her to stay in ministry at AAI. Paperwork can be very complicated in this country, and we do not have a lot of time to finish the process! Please pray for smooth and quick visits at the different offices, and for God’s hand to lead! Thank you! Thank you so much for stopping by our website! We are so excited to be able to keep family and friends updated on our life and ministry through this blog. We will be posting often about our experiences in ministry, and hope you will begin to feel a part of what God is doing here.
You may be wondering why we are doing this now, and not 2 years ago! Let us share with you a few reasons. After serving at AAI for a few years, we have finally felt God leading us to ask for people to partner with us in our ministry- first through prayer. We have been without a home church in the U.S. since we began our ministry, and the real loss of that is not having a group of people to continually lift us up in prayer. God is in the process of re-focusing us, and helping to make our experience as missionaries more fulfilling than ever. This is a very exciting time for us, and we want to share that with others! We need your prayers, family and friends, to keep us focused and strong! Additionally, God has also been using circumstances to show us the importance of asking people to consider partnering with us as financial supporters. Over the last few years we have always found a way to make our ministry work on our own- just us and God. During this time we have been shown that God always provides! He has provided for us in amazing ways throughout this missionary journey! He has always provided additional work just when we need it the most! However, due to some of the ministries we have begun to involve ourselves in, we are having to work countless additional hours outside of our ministry. While we believe that this is important, and will continue to work hard as God provides work, it has become difficult for us to keep up with expenses despite our efforts. We know that God didn't call us to be alone in ministry- in Ephesians 4, we are told that unity in the body of Christ is what causes it to function effectively. It has become clear that God is calling us to partner with others. We believe that God wants us to focus on the work that he called us here to do, and we can be more effective in our mission field with partners in the body of Christ. In the same way, we believe that God will call some of you to partner with us. We know that no matter what, He is in control and will provide for all of our needs. It is a step up faith for us to ask for support, and it is not something that is easy for us to do. But we are excited to see how God continues to provide to our ministry as we rely on Him with this transparency. So please, prayerfully consider joining with us. We desperately need your prayer support, and are very appreciative of any financial contribution you can make. We hope that you will connect with us if you have any questions! We are so very thankful for each of you! |
